The CPLED community is pleased to announce significant changes in its Board of Directors, effective September 25, 2024.
Kris Dangerfield has concluded her tenure after serving on the CPLED Board since October 2018. During her remarkable time on the Board, Kris provided visionary leadership, fostering collaboration among law societies and students across jurisdictions. Her commitment to CPLED’s growth, particularly her embracement of new initiatives, has left a lasting impact on the organization. The CPLED community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Kris for her significant contributions and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours.
Don Thompson, K.C., who has served with distinction as Chair of the CPLED Board, will transition into the role of Past Chair and remain the Chair of the Governance Committee. Don’s exemplary leadership has been instrumental in guiding CPLED through critical transitions and advocating for initiatives that promote the future of legal education in Canada. CPLED is grateful for his continued involvement and strategic insight as he enters this advisory role.
We are excited to announce Cori Ghitter, K.C., as the new Chair of the Board and Tim Brown, K.C., as Vice-Chair. Cori, a Board member since 2018 and former Vice-Chair, has played a key role in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization. Alongside her responsibilities as Deputy Executive Director at the Law Society of Alberta, she has led significant projects aimed at enhancing lawyer competence, such as the Western Canadian Competency Profile (WCCP and revamping the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program. Tim, a Board member since 2017 with over 30 years of legal practice and leadership in national initiatives promoting lawyer competence and professional development, brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as Vice-Chair.
Together, Cori and Tim’s expertise and shared strategic vision will be vital as CPLED continues to innovate and fulfill its purpose of advancing competency-based Canadian legal education and services to entry-level lawyers.
