Are you looking to accelerate your PREP studies?

The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is excited to announce the pilot of a new delivery model of the Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP), Accelerated PREP in Alberta this Spring. Accelerated PREP is a full-time 14-week compressed version of PREP delivered completely online.

In the Fall of 2020, CPLED conducted focus groups with various stakeholder groups to determine the interest in offering a full-time Bar admission program students can complete before commencing articles. Based on the feedback received Accelerated PREP was devised.

“We’re thrilled to be offering a full-time version of PREP, this is something firms and students have been requesting for some time,” says, Dr. Kara Mitchelmore, CEO of CPLED.

Alberta was chosen for the inaugural offering as many firms in the province also have offices located in British Columbia and are familiar with the Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC), which is the official full-time Bar admission program in British Columbia. Accelerated PREP will not be replacing the current model. The delivery of Accelerated PREP is being piloted to determine if this program offering will be added to CPLED program offerings in the future allowing for greater flexibility for students and firms to choose the delivery style that best suits their needs.

To effectively pilot this delivery model, CPLED is seeking students from various stakeholder groups to establish the student cohort. “While we would like to accept all students interested in participating, as we believe this offering will be attractive to many students and firms, accommodating everyone may not be possible,” says Dr. Mitchelmore.

Students who are interested in participating in the full-time program will be required to complete an expression of interest application before April 7, 2021.
