Student Services provides programming and support to candidates enrolled in the Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP). Some of the programs provided are for all candidates, while others focus on support for candidates who are searching for articling positions.
Programming For All PREP Candidates
PREP Recess: PREP delivery is 100% online, which can limit opportunities to network and build friendships with classmates. PREP Recess is a networking program that introduces pairs of candidates every two weeks, allowing for random “water cooler meetings” and relationship building.
PREP candidates are eligible for articling search support from CPLED from the time of enrolment to three months after completing their Capstone Evaluation.

I am glad that I have approached the Student Services at CPLED and connected with Mr. Eric Pye while I was searching for articles. It has been helpful to have someone to talk to and ask questions about the application materials. Mr. Eric Pye told me to focus on describing my accomplishments rather than listing job duties. This method has got me thinking about how I can add value to the potential employer. His tips on connecting with people also made me feel more comfortable approaching others for advice and help. I encourage any students who are searching for the right place to begin their career to speak to Student Services.

Choosing the CPLED route to become licensed was the wisest decision I have ever made. My experience in the program helped me feel confident in becoming a lawyer. I can’t thank you and the team enough for helping me throughout this process.

It was an insightful experience. I was able to learn the importance of networking in the search for an articling position. This did not only help me grow my network on LinkedIn with legal professionals, but by acting on the advice and guidance I got, I was able to schedule zoom meetings with experienced lawyers who were willing to share their experience with me. It gave me insight on what the legal landscape is like in Canada, Calgary specifically. Eventually I was able to meet with someone who was willing to give me a change to article. I am super grateful.

Support! Mentally and also resourcefully. I always believed in kindness and its impact on people. I am grateful that I was treated with much kindness and respect. Students come from various backgrounds and various issues and also circumstances. It was wonderful to know that the student services were kind and accommodating to the circumstances of the students and was willing to help and support them through this journey. They helped me with networking and gave me plenty of resources to work from. I completely changed my resume to reflect what was required by the profession. I learnt how to network, approach counsels and also how to build relationships through one-on-one sessions via zoom. I am grateful and very much appreciate the motivation, guidance, encouragement and hope that I received through the services. Thank you!

He had Zoom meetings with me and supported me during my articling search, from correcting my resume to preparing for an interview, tirelessly. Luckily, I secured articling with my first interviewer. I find myself short of words to say thank you to the PREP team and Eric Pye for providing excellent support. Eric— you have no idea how much support you have provided me. Thank you for being there when I need help.
