The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is a non–profit organization that offers the Bar admission program in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia. To be called to the Bar, students must article and complete CPLED’s Bar admission program, Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP).
CPLED is dedicated to helping students hone their practical skills and assesses how well they are able to apply their legal knowledge and skills in everyday situations. This helps ensure new lawyers are well-equipped to meet the demands of the workplace. CPLED maintains a high standard of programs and services for students to ensure a strong transition into the legal profession.
The Learning Management Systems (LMS) Assistant will act as a trusted systems advisor to CPLED staff, students, Facilitators, Assessors, Practice Managers, and Simulated Clients through system support and systems management. The Learning Management Systems (LMS) Assistant will be responsible for setting up courses in D2L.
Success in this position requires excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service skills; strong problem-solving and relationship-building skills; project management skills; and solid technical skills with a variety of Learning Management Software Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accurate setup of D2L courses (PREP, LRW, law societies’ supported courses, etc.). This includes content upload and release conditions.
- Ensure D2L is optimally configured, accurately maintained and users receive required training and support for their roles in the organization.
- Prepare, assign, and provide D2L access to students.
- Update D2L when there are changes to student’s enrollment status e.g., student deferrals, withdrawals, student returning to program.
- Maintain and update course calendars.
- Support grades transfer into the MemberPro student database system.
- Act as the primary troubleshooter for Bongo and provide reports as required.
- Coordinate all aspects of the setup for Foundation Workshops and Capstones(e.g., scheduling, student groupings).
- Updating and posting announcements in D2L and via e-mail.
- Assisting students and contractors with D2L technical questions.
- Monitoring technical questions and provide detailed summary to Program Manager.
- Creating and revising technical handbooks/manuals for internal and external stakeholders.
- Troubleshooting technical issues for internal staff and external stakeholders.
- Acting as a resource for staff for information and support on all related learning management systems issues.
- Ensuring D2L is optimally configured, accurately maintained and users receive required training and support for their roles in the organization.
- Working with CPLED’s staff to improve and develop methods of online delivery for their programs. Educational design experience is considered an asset.
- Working with CPLED’s learning management software support team at D2L to address technical issues and improve and develop methods for the online delivery of CPLED’s programs.
- Be informed of D2L updates and new innovations through the BrightSpace Community, attendance at D2L meetings, and training provided. Apply learnings to address technical issues and improve D2L delivery of CPLED programs.
- Cross-training with other LMS Assistants.
- Support CPLED Admin mailbox including sorting and assigning e-mails and tasks with other team members and taking on tasks personally
- Working on and completing additional projects as required.

Qualifications:
- Adequate knowledge of learning management systems and web delivery tools (preferably D2L, Bongo etc.)
- Experience with e-learning platforms, both asycronous and syncronous.
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail and a sharp focus on the quality of work.
- Time management, prioritization, organizational, judgment and communication skills.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, staff, and subject matter experts.
- Presentation and communication skills which convey confidence and credibility.
- Ability to manage high volumes of work accurately and efficiently.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Solid customer service experience.
- Possess intermediate Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
- Excellent time management skills managing multiple projects and urgent requirements.
