Terms of Use
This website and its associated web applications, portals, and databases (collectively the “Website”) is provided by the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (“CPLED”) conditional on your acceptance of the terms of use set out in this document (collectively the “Terms”). By accessing and making use of this Website, you agree, on your own behalf and on behalf of any entity on whose behalf you may be acting, to be bound by the Terms. If you do not want to be bound by the Terms, you must not use the Website.
Policy Statement
CPLED is established pursuant to the Societies Act, (Alberta) S.A. 2000, c.S-14, for the purpose of delivering the Practice Readiness Education Program (“PREP”) on behalf of the member jurisdictions of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of
Alberta, the Law Society of Saskatchewan, the Law Society of Manitoba, and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. CPLED also delivers PREP on behalf of its affiliated jurisdictions, the Law Society of the Northwest Territories, and the Law Society of Nunavut.
In addition to PREP, CPLED delivers the following programs on behalf of the Federation:
A. Legal Research and Writing (LRW) program; and
B. Indigenous Peoples and the Law (IPL) program.
The programs listed above and any other programs offered by CPLED from time to time are collectively referred to as the “Programs”. Any reference to CPLED in this document also refers to its Programs.
Defined terms are in bold text; definitions can be found in the CPLED Policy Definitions document.
Privacy Policy
CPLED is committed to protecting the privacy and Personal Information of those to whom it provides goods and services and of members of the public. CPLED’s Privacy Policy can be found in the CPLED Privacy Policy document.
Ownership and Use

CPLED either owns the intellectual property rights of all web code, text, images, audio or visual recordings, and other content (collectively “Content”) that is made available to you through this Website, or CPLED has obtained rights to the intellectual property of such Content to use the Content. Such ownership and rights extend to all current and future Content displayed on or uploaded to the Website.
CPLED provides the Content on this Website for personal, professional, non- commercial, or educational use only.
CPLED grants to you a limited license to display on your computer, print, download, and reproduce the Content that is made available to you on this Website, for non-commercial, personal, judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings, or educational purposes,

Use of Logo
Use of the CPLED logo is prohibited unless you have received prior written permission from CPLED.

Prohibited Uses

B. publish, post, upload, email, distribute, or disseminate (collectively “Transmit”) any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent, confidential, personal, or unlawful content and information;
C. Transmit files that contain viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage or adversely affect the operation of another person’s software, hardware, or telecommunication equipment, including without limitation CPLED’s Website and Content;
D. advertise or offer to sell any goods or services for any purpose;
E. Transmit surveys, contests, unsolicited advertising or promotional materials, chain letters, pyramid schemes, spam, phishing attempts, or other unsolicited content;
F. falsify or delete any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or the source of any goods or services, including software and other digital materials;
G. restrict or inhibit any other user from using the Website or Content pursuant to these Terms;
H. collect or store personal information about other users, except in compliance with applicable laws;
I. interfere with or disrupt CPLED, including without limitation CPLED’s software, hardware, telecommunication equipment, Website, and Content;
J. impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent an affiliation with a person or entity;
K. falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your identity, accreditations, qualifications, affiliations, license status, standing, or any other personal or professional information;
L. forge headers or manipulate identifiers or other data in order to disguise the origin of any content transmitted through the Website;
M. take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionate load on CPLED’s software, hardware, telecommunication equipment, Website, and Content;
N. engage in any illegal activities according to the laws of the Province of Alberta, the laws of Canada, and the laws of any other jurisdiction that may apply to your activities; and
O. any other Prohibited Uses identified by CPLED with or without notice to you.
If CPLED determines, at CPLED’s sole discretion and without liability to CPLED whatsoever, that you have engaged in, threatened to engage in, or are otherwise likely to engage in any Prohibited Uses, CPLED may immediately and without notice to you terminate your access to and use of the Website and Content, in addition to taking any other action that is available to CPLED.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
All matters relating to access to, or use of, this Website shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising in connection with this Website, the Content, or these Terms will be heard by a
court of competent jurisdiction sitting in the Province of Alberta, Canada, and you attorn to the exclusive jurisdiction thereof.
